Week 7

This week was actually fun to do!! We got to spend a lot of time planning and figuring out what our radio show will be. I enjoyed it because I got to work with other people, people that I’ve been commenting and replying on on Twitter and the blogs.

But of course we can’t forget about the weekly stuff like Daily Creates and assignments from the assignment bank!

The first daily create was about today in fake history. This one was fun to both read others and do myself. I needed to pick one of the black and white ones off spongebob. I see these all over my own twitter anyways so it wasn’t hard to find.

The next one was about the 50 worst jobs. The one that popped in my head almost immediately is show below. It honestly was the only field trip I wish I hadn’t attended.

The final daily create was to show a clown thats in the blues. I just easily typed up sad clown and there was so many that showed up. I hate clowns so it wasn’t my favorite assignment.

Next up is the Assignment bank. I did 3 assignments for this week because I needed 10 stars. The first one that I did was the parody of a song. I was obviously hungry that day so I did a parody of Adele’s “Hello” as “Hangry” Check it out! I earned 3 stars from this assignment!

“Hello” or “Hangry”

The next assignment was very fun! We had to take quotes from famous Disney songs and turn it into a story. The story didn’t have to make sense, but I tried my best to make it make sense. I used some of my favorite quotes from Disney in this. I got 4 stars from this!!!

Disney Lyrics, but No Sense at All

The final assignment, I utilized my character I chose for the semester. We had to find a theme song from a tv show that will either be about or coming from the character I selected. I went with tone of the most legendary shows, Drake and Josh. Here’s my post about the assignment that gave my last 3 stars!

Theme Song of Olivia

The next thing I did for the week was create a bumper sticker/logo for either my group’s new radio show or the ds106 radio show. I had to go with our own radio show because maybe they will want to use this one as one of our 3.

Radio Show Bumper!

The final thing I did for the week was to give an update of our Radio Show. I think we are in a good place currently in our progress. We are getting more and more ideas for how to make our radio show the best. My group for this project is Chlover, Isaiah, Jessica, Kara, and Suzanne Catlin.

Progress of our show!

That’s all for this week!! I hope you like the progress and are looking forward to listening on our radio show!!

Progress of our show!

As this is week one of working on the radio show, my group and I have thought about a lot. Zae was the one who asked the group of us if we would be in a group. I was very thankful for that because I didn’t have a group really to belong to. We created the name of our radio show over twitter messages. We came up with Super storytellers! I thought it sounded good because everything we brainstormed has revolved around our characters we had created earlier for the class.

We next created a google doc. This is where we began to plan just what type of things we will discuss in each of our segments. The professor helped us by commenting his ideas on our ideas.

We also took some time to write out just who our characters are. Then we can get an idea of what the show will be as a whole. We all agreed to of course have our work for the week done by today, but then also we agree to have our commercials in by Sunday. Then Zae will be able to mash them together in whatever way and then we will be more ahead of schedule.

I think we had a very successful week when planning our radio show. Now next week we need to get down to business!

Radio Show Bumper!

When considering what I should make the bumper sticker for our radio show, I was thinking about our topic. Our radio show is going to be all about our characters and the stories they tell. Of course I needed to add in a story book in some way. But I was also considering the vintage portion of it. Of course ration shows aren’t exactly vintage, but the vintage look shows that it will be something of a radio show. I thought it would look interesting if I placed the photo on a record. This is because its almost like if someone picks up the record and plays it, they will hear our show! You can check out what program I used to create this here.

I loved this idea for it, but I will see if my group will use it.

Theme Song of Olivia

The final assignment I chose was one that included my character for the semester. This assignment was the last 3 stars that I needed to complete the 10 stars for the week. The assignment was to find a theme song from a tv show, and explain how it can be about my character. I thought this would be good to better show the depth of the character. The theme song I had to choose was from Drake and Josh. The song is called I found a way. Here is the video so you can watch and get a feel for it.

So you can also read the lyrics, here they are:

[Verse 1]
Well, I never thought that it be so simple, but
I found a way, I found a way
And I always thought that it’d be too crazy, but
I found a way, I found a way
[Pre-Chorus]
If you open up your mind
See what’s inside
[Chorus]
It’s gonna take some time to realign
But if you look inside, I’m sure you’ll find
Over your shoulder you know that I told you
I’ll always be pickin’ you up when you’re down
So just turn around
[Verse 2]
Now that I know that anything’s possible
I found a way, I found a way
No one can break what is so unbreakable
I found a way, I found a way
[Pre-Chorus]
If you open up your mind
See what’s inside

[Chorus]
It’s gonna take some time, to realign
But if you look inside, I’m sure you’ll find
Over your shoulder you know that I told you
I’ll always be pickin’ you up when you’re down
So just turn around
[Verse 3]
No one cares
What you give
You know you gotta live like you wanna live
When it’s time
To be free
You know you gotta be what you wanna be
[Pre-Chorus]
If you open up your mind
See what’s inside
[Chorus]
It’s gonna take some time to realign
But if you look inside, I’m sure you’ll find
Over your shoulder you know that I told you
I’ll always be pickin’ you up when you’re down
So just turn around
Ooo

This song seems like it would speak to my character Olivia right away. It’s basically saying if you just actually look around and look at yourself, you have somebody who would do anything for you. It says that “I always thought I’d be too crazy” meaning he always thought something was wrong with him and people wouldn’t be friends with him. That’s the way Olivia feels. Even though she puts up this front that she thinks she is the best and everyone loves her, she actually thinks nobody does or ever will love/like her. It also says you need to live like you want to live not just live the way others want you to live. Olivia is always trying to do stuff that will make her parents happy and proud of her. But they have such high standards that most likely she will never be able to do either of those things.

Disney Lyrics, but No Sense at All

The next assignment that I picked was a Disney one. The assignment was to take lyrics from different Disney movies and put them into a story. Luckily the assignment doesn’t have to make sense at all! This assignment gave me 4 stars.

“Ready to know what the people know, ask ’em my questions and get some answers”(Little Mermaid) The answer? “A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, in the most delightful way.”(Mary Poppins) “And at last I see the light” (Tangled). “And the fears that once controlled me can’t get to me at all” (Frozen).  And now, ” I am on my way, I can go the distance. I don’t care how far, somehow I’ll be strong” (Hercules). “So prepare for a chance of a lifetime! Be prepared for sensational news! A shining new era is tiptoeing nearer” (The Lion King).

Honestly, I picked my favorite quotes out of movies and just put them together.

“Hello” or “Hangry”

The first of assignments I picked from the assignment bank was to make a parody of a verse of a song. I picked Adele’s song Hello. That one is pretty simple when I was considering a good parody. I am very hungry today, so I decided to make the verse coming from the new song Hangry. This assignment was worth 3 points.

Original verse:

Hello from the other side
I must have called a thousand times
To tell you I’m sorry for everything that I’ve done
But when I call you never seem to be home

My verse:

Hella pizza late at night, I keep saying just one more slice, and I feel so hangry — breakfast, dinner and lunch — and the ice cream truck is the only reason I run anymore

Just in case you couldn’t remember the tune, here is the original song!

Week 6 Summary

This week was pretty easy and light on the work, which of course I very much enjoyed 🙂

I enjoyed the design theme of it. From doing theater in high school, I was always huge on design when creating the set. This allowed me to pick what colors/shapes would be best for drawing away/keeping the audiences attention. When we did the readings for this week, it refreshed my brain on just how much goes into creating designs. But I also enjoyed reading about all the different events that helped make designs what they are today.

I talk about it all in this post!

Reading and Reflecting!

The next assignment that I had to do was the photo blitz. This one took me almost the longest any assignment has taken me this semester yet. I think thats only because I was so picky. I also tried to incorporate many different of the ideas (color, balance, rhythm, etc.) into the pictures. Look at the post!

Photo Blitz

Of course, as usual I had to do the daily creates.

The first one was all about what has bat boy been doing lately. I typed in on google bat boy, and a picture of him grown up is what came up! Which was perfect for the assignment!!

The second daily create assignment was my personal favorite: modern marshmallow man! Easy!! We have a modern marshmallow man and he is a dj!!

The final daily create of the week was to post a picture of dunkin what? I’m pretty sure along with everyone else, the thought that popped into my head was Donuts! Dunkin Donuts!

The last, and most frequent assignment was to do 12 stars worth on the design assignment bank. The first one that I picked was worth 3 stars. This assignment was to write our names out in very cool letters with a cool background. I thought it would be neat to write my name in Disney design letters. That was fun to do!

Disney Alexis!

The next assignment was worth 2 stars. This one was to create a word chart of different words that describes our character we created earlier in the semester. With the help of a word art generator I was able to create one in the shape of a heart, which to me completely described my character!

Olivia’s Word Chart

The 4th assignment was to design our character. She may not have come out perfectly, but she did come out a lot like how she looks in my head!  Which is so good! And it was worth 4 stars!

Character Design: Olivia

The final assignment to design a postcard for a location that I would like to go to. It was worth 3 stars. I tried to make it look the most French-like since I wrote one for France!

Postcard From France

That’s the end of this week! Along with commenting I completed all the assignments due! It wasn’t that hard of assignments either!

Photo Blitz

This week’s photo blitz assignment took almost all week. I noticed that I spent a lot of time in my Classes looking for the perfect designs to use.

The first picture is one that shows rhythm. This is because it has a repeated pattern of boxes with flowers in them. It grabs the attention from anybody who walks in!

The next picture also shows rhythm. It has a repetition of frames and mirrors. All of these are rectangular/square which brings the rhythm to the viewers attention.

The third picture is of balance. It brings balance to the overall look of the doors. This makes it very easy to look at and brings the visuals around the room together.

The next picture is like the last. It is all about balance. Balance from this provides a very nice look for the tv stand.

Th picture that was in the Spanish building shows lots of color and how color can dominate the viewer’s attention. I am not planing to major or minor in Spanish, but it seeing this picture outside of my classroom grabbed my attention because it has a brighter color on top of a deeper blue.

I used the Bishop Briggs concert I went to, to show proportion. This uses a proportion of Bishop’s body to the podium that she keeps on stage. Which helps to show the different heights of both.

Dominance in a picture can be very important when wanting to keep attention on one thing/item. When I was at the beach, I took a picture of my dog Rilee on sand, which sticks out the color red of her on the plain sand

Unity is the next idea that I represented in my instagram posts. I found a salt lamp collage that I thought would be very good to represent how beautiful unity can be.

A message can be very powerful in a picture. That is why I picked this message for my background on my MacBook.

Reading and Reflecting!

I learned quite a bit from the articles that were given for this week! You can read the main article linked here.

It explains many different aspects to design. The way he explains it is the easiest of understanding since it is an explanation for kids. I prefer that instead of using very in depth detail since my experience with design is very limited.

I also to a look at one of the articles linked in this article. You can check it out for yourself here.

I wanted to see the different ideas that changed graphic design such as manifestos and pictograms and propaganda.

Since I am a political science major, I have looked much into the idea of propaganda and propaganda from many different time frames. I enjoyed reading about how it could have changed the way graphic design was. There is a whole article about it and how design was used.
