Ebay through time

This assignment was to look at how a website has changed over time. Take a look at eBay since 1999 (the year I was born)

1999:

2001:

2004:

2007:

2010:

2014:

2018:

As you can see, Ebay has changed quite a bit over time for the last 19 years. The amount of ads on the eBay page has increased greatly. The colors and eye-catching parts of the website also had increased. There is also less reading on the page as time went on which was very strange.

Best Digital Tool for UMW

This is the absolute best tool that I know how to use. It is called Rate my Professor. This incredible website/tool can show you ratings of professors that you are thinking about taking a class from.

You simply go to http://www.ratemyprofessors.com. You do not need an account in order to check professors, but you do need one if you would like to rate a professor. Here are the steps to finding your professor:

  1. Go onto the website above
  2. Click “Find a Professor”
  3. Type in your school (for us, University of Mary Washington)
  4. Then right under it, type the last name of the professor for which you would like to know about
  5. Scroll down and you will see the ratings for the professor.
  6. If you look in the top left corner of each rating, you can see what class number it is for

This is the best website when making your schedule. I hope it helped!!!

DS106 Haunted

My first assignment from the assignment bank was ghosts of ds106 past. I went onto Instagram and typed in #ds106 and found someone that put a reflection of an object into an eyeball. I thought that would be fun to do, so I tried it out myself!

It was harder than I thought it would be, so I put a little heart into the black part of the eye.

I hope it looks cool and different!

Website Recreations

This project was R.O.U.G.H.

It took me 3 hours to complete what I wanted to do. Once I completed it I was very proud of it! Then it stopped working! Let me explain,

When I clicked the p in the corner of the page, it came up a link that said sign in or sign up. Here’s what it is:

I had made an account previously, so I clicked sign in. it simply opened a new browser, the browser closed, and it left that exact box still up. So sadly I was unable to save the progress I had done. I did take screenshots of my page and what I did. Here is my mock-website!!

I decided to make one about selling a piece of Albert Einstein’s brain. I made it because I was trying to think what could I want more than an easier to work with and smarter brain.

I also put see other items as all items people would want who are in college: sweatshirts, test answers, energy drinks, coffee, Netflix, sweatpants, etc.

So basically this was the most difficult and time consuming assignment of this semester.

Listening in on DS106 Radio!

This week we got the opportunity to listen to radio shows that us as well as our classmates have created. I enjoyed this opportunity to hear the different ways people went with this assignment.

I listened to the “Myths, Legends And Character Conversations” radio show! And it was so good. I thought it was the best for using sounds. The background music, intro music, everything made the show that much more real.

You can look at the tweets I made when the show was going on here:

It was the creepiest one out of all 3 of them. Some of the parts did get odd when they were switching characters. I think they should have changed the voices more so it was better to understand.

Overall I thought the whole idea of the radio show was pretty creative! They clearly spent a lot of time together working it out. And it was clear that they worked in person or at the same time online.

Whoever was speaking right after the show said… “in case we dont know who iron man is….” That took me by surprised! Who wouldn’t know?!?!

Week 8

This week was the longest I’ve spent on an assignment for this class.

We put a lot of time into the radio show. You can see how much we did in the summary post here:

Second and Final Week of Radio Show

We designed our radio show to be news reports about our different worlds/characters. It was nice to incorporate our characters in a fun and creative way. Our commercials were allowed to be for anything. So I picked mine to be Halloween since we were around the time of Halloween. Curious about our full radio show? Check it out!

I also completed 2 Daily Creates this week. This included:

This one was a very old picture of 2 people and it says what are they wearing. Just like everyone else, I thought of Mickey Mouse.

The last one was a picture of a knife and it said who do it? That made me think of a type of game we used to play when I was a kid.

That’s it for this week! A huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders now that it’s over!

Second and Final Week of Radio Show

Well! We finished our radio show! It was a long process, but we did it!! The way we did it was from a few steps:

We created a google doc and explained/discussed what we would be doing. We then, each on our own, created both our commercial and our radio show segment.

We discussed and sent everything both into the google doc, and in twitter messages.

Zae was the best group partner. He then took all of our segments and put it together into our final radio show!!

This project was fun and I enjoyed getting to work with members of our class since this is an online class.

Week 7

This week was actually fun to do!! We got to spend a lot of time planning and figuring out what our radio show will be. I enjoyed it because I got to work with other people, people that I’ve been commenting and replying on on Twitter and the blogs.

But of course we can’t forget about the weekly stuff like Daily Creates and assignments from the assignment bank!

The first daily create was about today in fake history. This one was fun to both read others and do myself. I needed to pick one of the black and white ones off spongebob. I see these all over my own twitter anyways so it wasn’t hard to find.

The next one was about the 50 worst jobs. The one that popped in my head almost immediately is show below. It honestly was the only field trip I wish I hadn’t attended.

The final daily create was to show a clown thats in the blues. I just easily typed up sad clown and there was so many that showed up. I hate clowns so it wasn’t my favorite assignment.

Next up is the Assignment bank. I did 3 assignments for this week because I needed 10 stars. The first one that I did was the parody of a song. I was obviously hungry that day so I did a parody of Adele’s “Hello” as “Hangry” Check it out! I earned 3 stars from this assignment!

“Hello” or “Hangry”

The next assignment was very fun! We had to take quotes from famous Disney songs and turn it into a story. The story didn’t have to make sense, but I tried my best to make it make sense. I used some of my favorite quotes from Disney in this. I got 4 stars from this!!!

Disney Lyrics, but No Sense at All

The final assignment, I utilized my character I chose for the semester. We had to find a theme song from a tv show that will either be about or coming from the character I selected. I went with tone of the most legendary shows, Drake and Josh. Here’s my post about the assignment that gave my last 3 stars!

Theme Song of Olivia

The next thing I did for the week was create a bumper sticker/logo for either my group’s new radio show or the ds106 radio show. I had to go with our own radio show because maybe they will want to use this one as one of our 3.

Radio Show Bumper!

The final thing I did for the week was to give an update of our Radio Show. I think we are in a good place currently in our progress. We are getting more and more ideas for how to make our radio show the best. My group for this project is Chlover, Isaiah, Jessica, Kara, and Suzanne Catlin.

Progress of our show!

That’s all for this week!! I hope you like the progress and are looking forward to listening on our radio show!!

Progress of our show!

As this is week one of working on the radio show, my group and I have thought about a lot. Zae was the one who asked the group of us if we would be in a group. I was very thankful for that because I didn’t have a group really to belong to. We created the name of our radio show over twitter messages. We came up with Super storytellers! I thought it sounded good because everything we brainstormed has revolved around our characters we had created earlier for the class.

We next created a google doc. This is where we began to plan just what type of things we will discuss in each of our segments. The professor helped us by commenting his ideas on our ideas.

We also took some time to write out just who our characters are. Then we can get an idea of what the show will be as a whole. We all agreed to of course have our work for the week done by today, but then also we agree to have our commercials in by Sunday. Then Zae will be able to mash them together in whatever way and then we will be more ahead of schedule.

I think we had a very successful week when planning our radio show. Now next week we need to get down to business!

Radio Show Bumper!

When considering what I should make the bumper sticker for our radio show, I was thinking about our topic. Our radio show is going to be all about our characters and the stories they tell. Of course I needed to add in a story book in some way. But I was also considering the vintage portion of it. Of course ration shows aren’t exactly vintage, but the vintage look shows that it will be something of a radio show. I thought it would look interesting if I placed the photo on a record. This is because its almost like if someone picks up the record and plays it, they will hear our show! You can check out what program I used to create this here.

I loved this idea for it, but I will see if my group will use it.
